Great Flying Websites

AOPA. A tremendous resource for pilots.

Over The Airwaves by CFII Bob Miller is a truly excellent flying safety website and a must read. New issue each month and the archives going back a few years are well worth reading. Highly recommended!!

See How It Flies by Dr. John S. Denker (CFI, FAA Aviation Safety Counselor and Theoretical Physicist). To me this 400+ page free online book is the modern version of Stick and Rudder (and it covers much more). Read it!

FAA Safety Team Online Library - Great collection of flying safety material.

FAA Wildlife Hazard Mitigation - Reduce your odds of birdstrikes by checking out where they're common.

Anatomy of an Aircraft Engine Failure by Darren Smith, CFII/MEI - Excellent article on handling an in-flight engine failure. Read it!

Rich Stowell's Aviation Learning Center - Training, books, articles, etc. emphasizing the importance of specialized emergency training. See the "Survivors" page for some engine out stories. I highly recommend his Stall/Spin Awareness book!

Abandoned and Little-Known Airfields - Interesting site by Paul Freeman documenting abandoned airfields. A great source for this website! Feel free to put links in your comments to the page on his site so people can read the history.

Flying by CFII Philip Greenspun has lots of random flying goodies.

The Inner Art of Airmanship by airline pilot Dave English. Lots about the mental aspects of flying.

Artful Flying by Michael Maya Charles. Wonderful book about the zen of flying. Personally I think every pilot should read this book. Not available on Amazon.

Pelican's Perch by John Deakin. Lots of useful articles by him, particularly about engine management.

Mountain Flying - Books and articles by Sparky Imeson. Extensive and informative website.

Sky Vector - Up-to-date Sectionals.

AOPA Safety Publications - Read these!

FAA NOTAM's - FAA NOTAM's, weather maps, etc.

Flight Physical - Find a flight physican.

Flying Magazine

Plane & Pilot Magazine

X-Plane - The best flight simulator for pilots (especially now that MS Flight Sim is no longer under development!).

AVweb for all the latest news.
